American military hi-jinks. . .auf Deutsch! Twenty-plus years ago, The A-Team embodied our feverish Reaganite notions. . .today it appears almost quaint: culture clashes lingering from the Vietnam era (more recent than Clinton's first term is now), preoccupation with the Soviets--a positively charming "enemy" compared to the multiple, unending nightmares we confront today. Like Reagan, "Hannibal" Smith and his team kicked ass, but with a twinkle in their eyes and a modicum of benovolence that one would be hard-pressed to find nowadays. For those of you who, as the Brits would say, "don't have any German," rest assured that the translation captures our beloved introduction flawlessly.
